1982 International Travel Fellowship
Edward A. Sasse is the recipient of the 1981 and 1982 the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (formerly AACC) Fellowships to Promote Clinical Chemistry in a Foreign Country. Dr. Sasse will go to Panama (pending confirmation). The Fellowship is sponsored by Becton Dickinson Company. These are the second and third such awards.
Dr. Sasse is an associate professor in the Department of Pathology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He is also Director of Special Chemistry in the Department of Laboratories at the Milwaukee County Medical Complex and a member of the professional staff at Milwaukee County General Hospital and Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital. His research interests are concerned with the development and application of new analytical methods in clinical chemistry, particularly non-isotopic immunoassays. Dr. Sasse’s work on the development of enzyme immunoassays for the measurement of urinary steroid glucuronides for detection of the fertile period is sponsored by the World Health Organization. Dr. Sasse is a co-inventor of the patented technique known asCELIA (Competitive Enzyme-Linked ImmunoAssay).
He received his B.S. degree in chemistry from Arlington State College, Arlington, TX, in 1963 and his Ph.D. degree in biochemistry from the University of Tennessee Medical School, Memphis, TN, in 1968. He received his postdoctoral training in clinical chemistry at the University of Alabama Medical School, Birmingham, AL under Dr. Jon V. Straumfjord, Jr., in the Department of Clinical Pathology.
Dr. Sasse, a Diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry since 1973, and also holds certification by the National Registry of Clinical Chemistry.
