John T McDevitt

John McDevitt2016 Wallace H. Coulter Lectureship Award

Dr. McDevitt is chair of the biomaterials department at New York University’s College of Dentistry in New York City and the scientific founder and chief scientific officer of SensoDx, LLC, a diagnostic company committed to the development of scalable medical microdevice technologies. Dr. McDevitt’s research team pioneered the development of the programmable bio- nano-chip (p-BNC) sensor system—combining nano-science and engineering innovations, microfabrication, microfluidics, biosensors, clinical chemistry, and artificial intelligence. This technology can digitize biological signatures for a broad range of key health conditions, with capabilities validated in cancer diagnostics, cardiovascular disease, saliva-based diagnostics, infectious diseases, drugs-of-abuse detection, and cell imaging. The McDevitt laboratory works to translate its discoveries into real-world clinical practice with the aim of changing the current diagnostics paradigm. Over the past five years, Dr. McDevitt has served as the principal investigator for six major clinical studies and two clinical pilot studies involving the p-BNC system. This research has been funded by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and the U.K. Home Office Scientific Development Branch.

Dr. McDevitt and his team have written 200 peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts and contributed to more than 100 patents and patent applications.
