Point-of-Care Coordinator of the Year 2019

In July 2023, we changed our name from AACC (short for the American Association for Clinical Chemistry) to the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM). The following page was written prior to this rebranding and contains mentions of the association’s old name. It may contain other out-of-date information as well.

The CPOCT Division Awards Committee congratulates Kathleen David on her selection as 2019 Point-of-Care Coordinator of the Year.

Kathleen is currently the manager for Point of Care Testing at TriCore Reference Labs in New Mexico, which encompasses 15 hospitals and 60+ clinics, urgent care, and ED/UC hybrid sites. She manages a team of 4 supervisors and 20 POCT techs. Her areas of interest at TriCore Reference Labs are forming collaborative relationships with other departments in the laboratory and throughout the hospitals, as well as becoming involved in device research opportunities and population health management initiatives for TriCore within POCT.

Kathleen has a bachelor’s degree in Biology, MT (ASCP) certification, and over 45 years’ experience in the laboratory, with about 20 of those in POCT. She has worked as a laboratory generalist, in blood bank, and client engagement before moving into POCT. She has published an article in CLN Magazine Bench Matters and presented a Brown Bag session at the 2016 AACC annual meeting. She has presented several webinars on POCT subjects for Whitehat Communications and Roche Lab Leaders, as well as presenting at the SW Regional POC Group conference, the Louisiana POC conference, and the CLSC conference. She has earned the AACC Point of Care Testing Specialist certificate, and recently participated with the AACC task force to develop a certification exam for POC Professionals.
