Point of Care Coordinator of the Year 2010

This award is funded by Lifescan, Inc. and includes a cash award and funds to support attendance at the the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (formerly AACC) Annual Meeting. The recipient, Bob Kaplanis, is from Laboratory Sciences of Arizona / Banner Health.

Bob Kaplanis

Bob Kaplanis was born in Connecticut, later moving to Arizona where he attended Arizona State University and received a degree in Medical Technology.

Bob began working for Samaritan Health System in 1978 on weekends while attending college. He has worked in a variety of positions within his organization including Generalist, Chemistry, Phlebotomy Supervisor, POCT Coordinator and currently Technical Specialist – POCT.  In his current position he oversees the POCT program at the company’s Arizona hospitals and serves as a consultant to those outside the state.

Through a series of mergers and acquisitions the company has grown to 10 hospitals in Arizona and manages one other. They are now known as Banner Health and also have facilities in Alaska, California, Colorado, Nebraska, Nevada and Wyoming. The laboratories at the Arizona hospitals are managed by a division of Banner Health called Laboratory Sciences of Arizona, for which Bob works.

In his leisure time Bob enjoys playing softball, working out, gardening, home improvement projects, and snow skiing.
