Kerstin Halverson
Kerstin Halverson has been the Point of Care Testing Coordinator at Children’s of Minnesota since 2003. Kerstin oversees the entire POCT program for two hospitals, one ambulatory surgery center, three clinics and one ancillary testing site. This equates annually to over 300,000 patient tests, 2,200 operator competencies, and managing 150 POCT devices. She is Chairperson of Children’s POCT committee, participates on the Joint Commission Readiness Committee and is a member of the Laboratory Leadership Team.
Since 2006 Kerstin has been active in the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (formerly AACC) CPOCT as faculty in the inaugural CPOCT Certificate Program, followed by co-chairing the revisions team. She served two terms as the CPOCT Division Secretary and is currently CPOCT Chair-elect. Publishing numerous articles and a book chapter, Kerstin also presents, most recently at the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM) Annual Meetings and CPOCT Symposiums (2013, 2014, 2015).
Kerstin’s improvements at Children’s include the first interface of glucose and co-oximetry results via an HL7 unsolicited result interface (2003). In 2009, she was early to implement WebMRE. Last year she was the first TELCOR customer to interface POCT competencies from learning management solution (LMS), significantly reducing the amount of time she spends managing operator competencies.
Kerstin received her BA in Biology at Gustavus Adolphus College (1990) and her MS in Biology at Minnesota State University – Mankato (1993).
