Vote on AACC’s Proposed Name Change

In furtherance of the association’s 2019 strategic plan and following rigorous research, surveying, and stakeholder input, the AACC Board of Directors has voted unanimously to change the association’s name from AACC to the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM). This change does not represent a radical change in direction for the association. Rather, the Board concluded that the new name better describes the association and the field as it exists today and will strengthen our ability to advance the association’s unchanging mission: providing global leadership advancing the practice and profession of clinical laboratory science and medicine. Learn more about the history behind this decision here.

To take this bold and exciting step into a new chapter for the organization, we need your formal support. To this end, a membership business meeting is being convened, to hear your views and take a formal vote on the new name. We encourage all eligible voting members (Professional, Transitional, and Emeritus) to participate in this vote to change our bylaws.

When and where is the vote?

The vote will occur on April 21 during the 2023 AACC Annual Membership Business Meeting. Both in-person and virtual participation and voting is available to you.

The in-person meeting will take place during Spring Committee Weekend:

Friday, April 21, 2023
12:30 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time
Hyatt Regency Tysons Corner
Tysons, Virginia

How do I RSVP to attend the meeting and vote?

The deadline to RSVP was 12:30 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time on Thursday, April 20 and has now passed.

Once we receive your RSVP, you will be sent a calendar invite from AACC staff to hold this time on your calendar. If you select that you will participate and vote remotely, you will receive a Zoom link to the Annual Membership Business Meeting one week before it takes place.

AACC is incorporated in the state of New York, and New York law requires your participation (virtually or in person) in the meeting in order to cast your vote.

If you are not able to attend the meeting in person or virtually, you may appoint another AACC member to attend the meeting as your proxy and vote on your behalf. To do so, please fill out this form and return it as a scanned attachment to [email protected] by 9 a.m. U.S. Eastern Time on Wednesday, April 19. Please note that the deadline to appoint a proxy has now passed.

Can I speak at the meeting?

There will be a comment period at the Annual Membership Business Meeting, during which members attending in person and remotely will share their thoughts on the name change before the vote takes place.

The deadline for registering your intent to speak at the meeting was April 11 and has now passed.

Each registered member will have up to 2 minutes to share their thoughts.

Those who did not register their desire to speak will be accommodated as time permits, but please note that only members who registered their intent to speak will be assured an opportunity to comment.

Who is eligible to vote?

Professional, Transitional, and Emeritus members are all eligible to vote on the name change.

Your membership must be current in order to vote. If your membership is going to expire by April 21, be sure to renew it before then.
