On March 22, AACC and other members of the CDC Coalition sent a letter to the leaders of the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies, urging Congress to support at least $11.58 billion in funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the final fiscal year (FY) 2024 spending package. The funding is necessary to bolster the nation’s public health infrastructure, support programs that improve the quality of patient care, harmonized clinical laboratory test results, and address a range of other issues from the opioid crisis to global health security. Even as the agency works to address unprecedented challenges, many of its important programs remain underfunded. AACC will continue advocating for greater congressional investment in programs and agencies that support labs, healthcare providers, and the nation’s public health workforce.
