Point-of-care aficionados won’t want to miss “Practical Solutions for Patient Centered POCT: An AACC Virtual Conference,” which, in the course of a busy day, will cover everything from compliance and accreditation to in-depth looks at special POCT topics. One of the latter includes a session on “POCT Hematology Applications,” featuring expert faculty member Marcia L. Zucker, PhD, president of ZIVD, LLC, in Metuchen, New Jersey, and past chair of AACC’s Critical and Point-of-Care Testing division.

Zucker told CLN Stat she intends to give an “overview of hemostasis testing options available at POC and in the lab. This will include an overview of PTT and PT/ INR and just touch on platelet function, focusing on the inherent differences between POC and lab technologies and why the numbers don’t match.”

Additionally, Zucker said she plans to cover “hemostasis testing options available only via POC, including activated clotting time, and viscoelastography, encompassing both thromboelastography and thromboelastometry. I expect to discuss what these testing methods are, how they differ, and why labs and providers would use one or both.”

Finally, this session will review “important considerations for quality assurance when using any POC hemostasis devices,” Zucker said.

AACC’s dynamic and self-paced virtual conference aims to enhance the comprehensive skill set laboratorians possess in managing POCT programs. The conference will be held April 8, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and offers 5.5 ACCENT credits. The cost is $99 for AACC members and $149 for non-members.
