Ambry Genetics, a clinical genetics-testing lab, has partnered with NorthShore University HealthSystem’s Center for Personalized Medicine to advance the use of precision medicine in preventive care. Ambry and NorthShore’s Genomic Health Initiative will perform whole exome sequencing on 10,000 enrolled NorthShore patients to investigate genetic variations that might contribute to certain conditions. Another goal of the partnership is to transform the role hospitals play in genomic medicine and serve as a blueprint for other hospitals to follow. The initiative hinges on NorthShore’s advanced electronic medical record system integration and the dissemination of genetic testing to all healthcare providers throughout the NorthShore system. With its focus on prevention, the partnership will also offer a genetic risk score to patients that summarizes an individual’s genetic predisposition to disease using aggregated data from multiple risk variants.
