Matthew E. R. Butchbach, PhD, heads the Motor Neuron Diseases Research Laboratory at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. He earned his doctorate in biochemistry at Ohio State University and completed his postdoctoral training in neurogenetics at Ohio State University. In addition to the discovery and development of therapeutic options for children with SMA, his team is also designing more precise assays for molecular diagnostics and prognostics for SMA as well as for other pediatric-onset motor neuron and neuromuscular diseases.
