This program originally aired as a live webinar sponsored by AACC on October 1, 2013. Recently, Kidney International published the Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) 2012 Clinical Practice Guideline for the Evaluation and Management of Chronic Kidney Disease. This updated guideline refines chronic kidney disease (CKD) risk prediction, highlights important but underappreciated aspects of CKD, and calls upon labs to embrace a new set of testing recommendations. This program addresses how the traditional CKD five-stage risk prediction model has been modified, discusses the four tests for proteinuria (with urine albumin-to-creatinine (ACR) ratio being the preferred measurement) that are recommended by the KDIGO group; and outlines KDIGO recommendations for albuminuria testing and using cystatin C testing in the diagnosis and management of CKD.
