This webcast originally aired as a live webinar co-sponsored by AACC and Seattle Children’s Hospital on April 30, 2013. The genetic counselor is playing an increasingly important role in the clinical laboratory. During this program, you will hear how a genetic counselor can support the laboratory in many ways, including molecular test interpretation, interfacing with clinicians, and being a leader in developing and implementing lab and hospital policy initiatives related to genetic testing. After viewing the program, learners should be able to give examples of how a genetic counselor can support the laboratory, list considerations in evaluating whether or not to offer a new genetic test, and describe the genetic counselor’s role in the implementation of new lab/hospital policies related to genetic testing (e.g. insurance preauthorization).
