In this lecture Fred Apple, PhD, DABCC, will discuss the role of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin (cTn) assays to rule in/out myocardial injury and infarction in patients presenting with acute and chronic disease. As standardization among cTn assays is not currently available, evidence-based strategies and appropriate test utilization practices will be emphasized. Dr. Apple is Medical Director of Clinical Laboratories, including Clinical Chemistry, Clinical and Forensic Toxicology and Point of Care Testing.

Learning Objectives

Attendees of this lecture and Q&A session will improve their understanding of troponin testing and reporting, and will be able to improve collaborations with healthcare teams. Participants will also be able to discuss principles for understanding 99th percentile upper reference limits for contemporary assays as well as addressing gender specific differences for high sensitivity cTnI and cTnT assays.

Target Audience

Intended for laboratory directors, lab supervisors, and lead technologists who perform and/or review results for these types of tests.
