Application Review Criteria

Proposals submitted to AACC’s Research Prize Competition will be evaluated and graded using the following rubric:

Scientific innovation (30%)

  • What is unique about this research study?
  • What questions does the study seek to answer?
  • Is the research method innovative and feasible?
  • Why is AACC’s Universal Sample Bank necessary for this research?

Investigator(s) credentials and research environment (20%)

  • Does the PI(s) have the skill, experience, and resources needed to carry out the project?
  • Is the PI’s institution suitable and supportive of the research study?
  • What research approaches will the PI utilize?

Significance to the field of laboratory medicine (30%)

  • Why should this study be conducted?
  • Why should this study be conducted now?
  • In what way does this research improve clinical laboratory diagnosis?
  • How will this research project advance the role and values of laboratory medicine?

Impact on patient care and the healthcare system (20%)

  • Why should patients care about this work?
  • What value does the study add to the healthcare system in terms of cost saving, time saving, relationship with physicians, etc.?
