Recommendations on SARS-CoV-2 Testing

The COVID-19 pandemic is a rapidly evolving healthcare situation and research into SARS-CoV-2 is ongoing. While much remains to be learned about SARS-CoV-2, laboratory professionals—who are working on the frontlines of coronavirus testing—possess unique expertise in the development, use, and interpretation of clinical tests for this virus. The resources below provide best practice recommendations from the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (formerly AACC) lab experts on the use and limitations of SARS-CoV-2 serology testing (also known as antibody testing), advocate for vigilance in implementing serologic testing to provide better patient care through laboratory medicine, and provide guidance on the reporting of SARS-CoV-2 cycle threshold (CT) values.

These recommendations were informed by a review of evidence and the consensus of content experts.
