QuantuMDx Group has teamed with The Global Good Fund—a collaboration between Intellectual Ventures and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation—to make gold standard human papillomavirus (HPV) testing accessible to women in resource-limited countries. The partnership will harness QuantuMDx’s portable, battery-operated Q-POC diagnostic laboratory and the global health experience of Global Good to develop a rapid, low-cost mobile diagnostic test for HPV that screens for cervical and other genital cancers. Many women in resource-limited countries seeking treatment do not return to health facilities to receive follow-up care. A point-of-care HPV test could help combat cervical cancer in these areas by enabling health workers to screen and treat women during a single visit. “Placing tools such as this in the hands of health workers provides women in low-income countries with the same access to early detection that has dramatically reduced cervical cancer-related deaths in higher income countries,” said David Bell, director of global health technologies supporting Global Good.
