WASHINGTON – AACC, a global scientific and medical professional organization dedicated to better health through laboratory medicine, is pleased to announce that its health resource Lab Tests Online has entered a collaboration with Patient Power to educate cancer patients about the clinical laboratory tests that are a critical part of cancer care.

Lab Tests Online is an award-winning, global health information website designed to help patients, caregivers, and medical professionals understand the many lab tests that play a vital role in diagnosing, monitoring, and treating a broad range of medical conditions. Laboratory professionals, who are experts in the field, develop and review all content, including articles on lab tests, conditions/diseases, screening, clinical laboratory topics, and lab test news. Patient Power is also dedicated to enhancing patients’ health literacy, and specifically focuses on helping cancer patients take a more active role in their treatment. The online portal provides more than 2,000 educational videos that feature cancer experts, inspiring patients, and caregivers.

Starting in the fall of 2016, Lab Tests Online and Patient Power will host a series of live online videos for cancer patients and their families that will explain key tests used in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. This video series will aim to help cancer patients to make informed decisions about their medical care and to work with their healthcare providers to find the most effective treatment possible.

“Lab tests are basic to the diagnosis and monitoring of many illnesses, but too often the results are not explained nor clearly understood by patients and family members,” said Patient Power founder Andrew Schorr. “So we are thrilled to add an enhanced video component to the powerful Lab Tests Online website to enable patients to better understand the meaning of their tests and results.”

“We are excited to partner with Patient Power, a leading producer of online educational content about cancer, to empower oncology patients with crucial knowledge about their health,” said AACC CEO Janet B. Kreizman. “This video series will build upon Lab Tests Online’s and Patient Power’s existing resources to help fill the growing need for information on cancer tests that is easy for patients to understand and that enables patients to engage in managing their own care.”
