AACC Remembers Past President George N. Bowers Jr., MD
George N. Bowers Jr., MD, passed away at the age of 89 on August 16. Dr. Bowers served as AACC president in 1974, and was considered one of the leaders of his generation in the field of laboratory medicine.

Call for Applications: Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Applied Laboratory Medicine
AACC is seeking applications for Editor-in-Chief of its new journal, The Journal of Applied Laboratory Medicine: An AACC Publication. The deadline for applications is July 20, 2015. The new journal, which will begin publishing in spring 2016, will be a forum for peer-reviewed, applied research on clinically relevant laboratory topics and commentary on the practice of laboratory medicine.

The current governance structure developed organically, growing with the organization to fit the needs at the time. AACC Announces New Dates for the 2016 AACC Annual Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo
AACC announces a date change for the 2016 AACC Annual Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo in Philadelphia, due to the scheduling of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia during the same week originally scheduled for AACC’s meeting. The new dates for AACC’s 2016 meeting are July 31–August 4, 2016, just one week later than the original planned dates.
Dr. Loretta Doan Named Vice President of Policy and Global Affairs at AACC
AACC is pleased to announce that Loretta L. Doan, PhD, has assumed the position of vice president of policy and global affairs effective today. Prior to joining AACC, Doan served as director of science policy at the Endocrine Society, an organization representing more than 18,000 scientists and clinicians. At the Endocrine Society, she led a diverse portfolio of science policy initiatives that advanced the field of endocrinology, including a program focused on the standardization of hormone assays.
Call for 2015 Board of Directors Candidates
AACC’s Nominating Committee is accepting nominations for the 2015 Board elections. The President-Elect, Treasurer, two positions on the Board of Directors, and four positions on the Nominating Committee are to be elected to serve, beginning January 1, 2016. Written nominations can be sent to: Dr. Steven H. Wong, Chair, Nominating Committee c/o Cassandra Jackson, indicating the office for which the nominee is proposed. Online nomination forms can be accessed online.
The deadline for nominations is February 12, 2015.

AACC Local Sections Compete in First Ever Local Section Membership Challenge
At the start of this year, AACC launched its first ever Local Section Membership Recruitment Challenge, which asked each Local Section to recruit 25 new members by October 31, 2014. Now that the challenge has come to a close, AACC is pleased to announce that through it, our Local Sections recruited 96 new members in total.

An In-Depth Look at Thyroid Testing
