This program was originally presented during the 2021 AACC Annual Scientific Meeting, held from September 26-30, 2021.
With your registration, you will have access to the recording on demand through September 30, 2022.
Overview
Sepsis, acute respiratory tract, and urinary tract infections, as well as COVID-19 are the most prevalent reasons for hospitalization of patients with infections. These conditions represent significant diagnostic and management challenges in the Emergency Department and may result in inappropriate use of antimicrobial agents, leading to poor patient outcomes. Collaboration between emergency medicine clinicians and laboratory professionals is key for the development of institutional protocols and practices incorporating both early identification and management of high-acuity infections. Faculty in this symposium will explore topics including severe infection and sepsis, current understanding of monocyte biology, and laboratory data and role of AI to improve patient outcomes.
Target Audience
This activity is designed for lab supervisors, lab directors (and/or assistant directors), lab managers (supervisory and/or non-supervisory), point-of-care coordinators, pathologists, and other laboratory and healthcare professionals overseeing and/or carrying out topic.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Summarize the current challenges in the clinical assessment of severe infection and sepsis.
- Incorporate new information on monocyte biology into decision-making in regard to assessing severe infection.
- Describe the potential impact of laboratory data on patient outcomes as it relates to infectious disease management.
