Preanalytical errors in blood gas testing often go unrecognized and can impact patient care. Continuous focus of the challenges with preanalytical errors is key to improving blood gas testing. Important tools for accomplishing this include acknowledging that errors occur, initiating training efforts, sharing knowledge, prioritizing effective teamwork, and ensuring close collaboration with all stakeholders, including vendors. Prof. Simundic and Dr. Suh-Lailam share their perspectives and experiences from both sides of the of the Atlantic Ocean.
This activity is designed for lab supervisors, lab directors (and/or assistant directors), lab managers (supervisory and/or non-supervisory), point-of-care coordinators, and other laboratory professionals overseeing and/or carrying out blood gas testing.
