Dr. Winter is a professor of pathology, immunology, and laboratory medicine; pediatrics; and molecular genetics and microbiology at the University of Florida in Gainesville. From 1993 to 2006, he served as medical director for clinical chemistry at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida. In addition, he is principal investigator for the National Institutes of Health-funded Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet Islet Cell Autoantibody Core Laboratory and Islet Autoantibody Standardization Program. Dr. Winter directs the endocrine autoantibody laboratory that at the University of Florida Health Pathology Laboratories.
He directed the pathology residency training program at the University
of Florida for 10 years. He has given numerous presentations and has published extensively on behalf of the the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (formerly AACC). A multiple-time winner of the the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM) outstanding speaker award, Dr. Winter has served on several ADLM annual meeting organizing committees. He is a fellow of the College of American Pathologists and the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry, which he served as a member of the board of directors. He has contributed more than 200 articles, chapters, and abstracts that deal with chemistry, coagulation, diabetes, endocrinology, and immunology, including co-authoring ADLM’s monograph, Diabetes Mellitus, and its Handbook of Diagnostic Endocrinology.
