1993 International Travel Fellowship
Vijaykant B. Kambli will receive the 15th annual award, sponsored by Becton Dickinson Vacutainer Systems, Becton Dickinson and Co.
Kambli earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in chemistry and biochemistry from Bombay University and, in 1988, received an M.B.A from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. He is currently the Director of the Clinical Biochemistry Section at Norwalk Hospital, Norwalk, CT, where he has been since 1969. He is associated with the Department of Pathology and is an adjunct member of the medical staff. Kambli has been a member of the the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (formerly AACC) since 1970; his career combines hospital, reference organizations, and industrial experiences. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry and has been certified by the American Boards of Bioanalysis and the National Registry in Clinical Chemistry.
Kambli’s the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM) experience demonstrates a strong and continuing commitment to the advancement of clinical chemistry. Since joining the ADLM, he has been active at the local, regional, and national levels. Kambli has belonged to the Connecticut Valley Section since 1970, and was instrumental in putting this Section on a sound fiscal basis through industry sponsorship of the monthly meetings. He served on various committees within ADLM from 1983 to 1989; he held several leadership positions within the Connecticut Valley Section from 1978 to 1993; and he served on committees of the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry from 1982 to 1987. Kambli was also President and member of the Executive Board of the Indian Alumni for Clinical Chemistry from 1981 to 1985, and was Administrative Director of the Clinichem ’90 meeting.
Kambli has shared his professional experience and expertise through presentations at major meetings, several workshops and symposia, and 20 published articles. For 15 years he has been an evaluator of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) aqueous standard materials program, for which the CAP awarded him a Certificate of Appreciation. He also served as an evaluator on the International Committee for Standardization in Hematology. Kambli served on CAP Inspection and Accreditation teams for several years, and he chairs the Safety Committee of the Department of Pathology and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee of Norwalk Hospital.
In May 1985, Kambli was involved in helping to restore the health of children who had become dehydrated in the Ethiopian famine. In 1990, the Connecticut Valley Section honored Kambli by presenting him with the Seligson Golden Service Recognition Award for his continued service to the profession.
