Dr. Dufour is emeritus professor of pathology at George Washington University in Washington, DC. He was formerly chief of laboratory medicine and attending in hepatology at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington. He retired as a captain in the U.S. Navy Reserve in 1998. He has served the AACC in many capacities, including as treasurer, member of the board of directors, executive editor of Lab Tests Online, and associate editor for case studies of Clinical Chemistry. In retirement, he remains active on Lab Tests Online’s editorial board. He served the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (now the AACC Academy) in many capacities, including on the board of directors and as president. He has been active in the College of American Pathologists, and remains active as chair of its Clinical Pathology Education Committee, a member of the Council on Education and the Council on Accreditation, and as a laboratory inspection team leader. As an educator, he has trained medical students, residents in pathology, and fellows in gastroenterology and endocrinology. He has chaired committees for the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute and the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry. He has published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers, abstracts, and book chapters, with an emphasis on liver disease and endocrine testing. His numerous awards include the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry Henry Wishinsky Award, AACC awards for outstanding contributions in service to the profession and outstanding contributions in education, the College of American Pathologists Excellence in Education Award, and the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States Edward Rhodes Stitt Lectureship.
