Christina Lockwood2018 Outstanding Scientific Achievements by a Young Investigator

Dr. Lockwood is associate professor in laboratory medicine and director of the Genetics and Solid Tumor Diagnostics Laboratory at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. She obtained her PhD at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and completed her postdoctoral training in clinical chemistry and clinical molecular genetics at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Her research is focused on bridging clinical service and translational research, with an emphasis on developing innovative diagnostic assays. She has demonstrated the clinical utility of genomic testing in molecular oncology in several patient populations, including pediatric cancer patients. Her most recent projects fostered clinical deployment of cell-free DNA diagnostics in pregnancy, transplant, and oncology. Dr. Lockwood has participated in national genomics education programs across specialties using interactive, non-traditional modalities. Examples include creation of an adaptive learning AACC Learning Lab course, development of self-guided online modules, and integration of team-based learning in classroom and national workshop settings. She has won the AACC Outstanding Speaker Award many times, a young investigator award from the Academy of Clinical Laboratory Physicians and Scientists, and an outstanding clinical pathology teacher award from her university, as well as many other honors. Her activities with the AACC include serving as chair of the Molecular Pathology Division, secretary of the Pediatric Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division, and secretary of the Midwest Section. She serves on the working group of cancer genomics of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, the Molecular Oncology Committee of the College of American Pathologists, and the Annual Meeting Organizing Committee of the Academy of Clinical Laboratory Physicians and Scientists.
