On February 15th, endorsed H.R. 482, the Newborn Screening Saves Lives Reauthorization Act, introduced by Representatives Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA). If enacted, the legislation would reauthorize federal newborn screening programs for another five years and provide funding for states to expand their programs, ensure the quality and accuracy of their testing, and aid efforts to educate parents on the treatment and care of their children. The bill would also renew the Advisory Committee on Heritably Disorders in Newborns and Children. AACC joined with other allies in the healthcare community in endorsing this critical legislation and expects similar legislation to be introduced in the Senate in the coming months.
