On May 27th, the Biden Administration released its budget priorities for fiscal year (FY) 2022. In addition to providing a large funding boost for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the budget proposes additional money for public health programs, including a $30 billion prepare for future pandemics as well as $250 million for health emergency preparedness.

The budget also invests in other programs under the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) umbrella:

  • $84 million to create the Office of Climate Change and Health Equity to ensure research is at the forefront of leadership decision making.

  • $905 million for the Strategic National Stockpile, including funding to replenish medical supplies.

  • $27 million for the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps to continue readiness and training programs supported by COVID-19 supplemental appropriations.

  • $165 million to fund grants to provide substance use/opioid use disorder prevention, treatment, and recovery services to rural residents.

  • An increase of $75.9 million to support FDA data modernization by building core programs and infrastructure as well as critical enterprise technology capabilities.

AACC will continue to work with its partners in support of greater congressional investment in the programs and agencies that support labs, healthcare providers, and that help rebuild the nation’s public health infrastructure.
