Attendees looking for a change of scenery from traditional scientific sessions can explore these brief workshop sessions in the Expo’s exhibit hall or off-site at nearby hotels. There’s the 20-minute Lecture Series in the exhibit hall on August 6, where attendees can learn about the latest technologies and services. On August 6 and 7, a variety of industry workshops will take place in the Expo’s Exhibit Hall Theater, as well as presentations at select hotels at 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Some industry workshops may offer CE credits.

Two such events will take place August 6 from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Participants can earn 1.5 ACCENT credits by attending Race Against Time: The Challenge of Sepsis for Clinicians and Laboratorians, a workshop supported by Beckman Coulter. Expert speakers will discuss the sepsis healthcare burden, summarize clinical guidelines for establishing protocols, discuss the roles of stakeholders in diagnosing and managing this condition, and review sepsis biomarkers and antibiotic stewardship. Clinical Use and Performance of High-Sensitivity Troponin Assays: Overcoming Challenges in Implementation will explore the ins and outs of converting institutional assays from contemporary to high-sensitivity troponin markers. Supported by Ortho Clinical Diagnostics and Roche Diagnostics, the workshop’s speakers will discuss conversion experiences from outside the United States, suggest processes that can enable smooth migration, offer clinical perspective, and discuss how to overcome possible challenges. This program is also worth 1.5 ACCENT credits.
On August 7, The Fourth Universal Definition of Myocardial Infarction in Conjunction with the Clinical Laboratory Practice Recommendations for the Use of High-Sensitivity Cardiac Troponin in Acute Coronary Syndrome workshop will take place from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Speakers will walk through laboratory medicine expert recommendations and the Fourth Universal Definition of Myocardial Infarction for the use of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin in acute coronary syndromes and their impact on emergency medicine, cardiology, and laboratory medicine. Attendees will learn about the unique analytical characteristics of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin assays, how they differ from contemporary and point-of-care assays, and how to implement these assays in clinical practice. An interactive session will explore the daily challenges of using these assays.
