Previewing AACC’s CPOCT 25th International Symposium

In July 2023, we changed our name from AACC (short for the American Association for Clinical Chemistry) to the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM). Exciting sessions await attendees at the Critical and Point-of-Care Testing (CPOCT) 25th International Symposium, September 18-20, which will explore technological advances in point-of-care testing (POCT) and healthcare delivery trends that are changing clinical diagnostics and the quality of patient care.

One of the most interesting sessions at the San Diego event will be hosted by Carl Wittwer, PhD. This session will “describe techniques for creating nucleic acid amplification and detection methods that are more rapid, precise and accurate than current techniques and will be adaptable to POCT devices which are portable and handheld in size,” according to moderator and co-developer of the program, Frederick Kiechle, MD, PhD, medical director, clinical pathology, at Pathology Consultants of South Broward, LLC, at Memorial Healthcare System in Hollywood, Florida.

The conference will include five sessions over the 2.5-day event and will explore advances in using POCT to detect malaria, HIV, and sexually transmitted diseases. It will end with case studies that incorporate using rapid thromboelastography to reduce blood product usage and using troponin testing in cardiovascular care.

Sponsored by AACC’s Critical and Point-of-Care Testing Division, along with the Canadian Society of Clinical Chemists and the European Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, the conference is also under the auspices of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine.
