DESCRIPTION

Take a 30-minute break and join AACC for three “Quick Take” webinars on body fluid testing. Bring your lunch or a snack (along with your questions) for a series of webinars that will examine pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical issues in body fluid testing. Register for this program and attend all three webinars (for the price of one!) for a great review of the pre-analytical variables that impact body fluid test results, strategies for validating body fluid tests, challenges involved in reporting out body fluid test results, and much more.

On three consecutive days during the last week in August, spend 30 minutes each day with Drs. Darci Block and Deanna Franke, the authors of the Quick Guide to Body Fluid Testing, and review current concepts in body fluid testing.  During each webinar, the experts will give a 20-minute presentation, and then answer your questions. Can’t make all three? AACC will send out a link each day to webinar series participants so that you can catch up on what you missed.

TARGET AUDIENCE

Laboratory managers, supervisors, QA/QC professionals and other clinical laboratory scientists interested in learning more about the process involved in testing body fluids.

SPEAKERS

Darci R. Block, PhD, DABCC, Co-Director, Central Clinical Laboratory and Central Processing, Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN
Deanna Franke, PhD, MT (ASCP), DABCC, Technical Specialist, Laboratory Operations, Carolinas Healthcare System, Charlotte, NC

Program

During the three webinars, here’s what the presenters will review:

Tuesday, August 25—Pre-analytical Considerations of Body Fluid Testing

Physicians and clinical staff collect and send body fluid specimens to your laboratory.  Has your laboratory provided the useful and detailed instructions that are needed to deliver a quality sample to the laboratory for testing?  What does that even look like?

After attending this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify body fluid types and how they are collected
  • List preanalytical variables that impact body fluid test results
  • Compare and contrast body fluid order strategies

Wednesday, August 26— Analytical Considerations of Body Fluid Testing

A physician contacts the laboratory and is interested in measuring analyte “X” in body fluid type “Y”.  This webinar provides a strategy for laboratories to develop a validation plan to determine if analyte “X” can be accurately quantitated.

After attending this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Compare and contrast “standard” and “non-standard” body fluids
  • Relate strategies for standard fluid test validation to validation of body fluid tests

Thursday, August 27— Post-analytical Considerations of Body Fluid Testing

Physicians need actionable laboratory results for appropriate patient management.  This is equally applicable to body fluids!  This webinar summarizes the challenges and potential strategies for reporting body fluid test results to minimize confusion and maximize utility.

After attending this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the challenges in reporting body fluid test results
  • Compare and contrast strategies of reporting body fluid test results

Drs. Block and Franke will also answer any questions you may have during the live Q&A at the end of each webinar.
