As we are all aware, the U.S. healthcare system is undergoing tremendous change. In fact, the scope of this overhaul has prompted Jeffrey Bauer, PhD, the well-known healthcare economist and futurist, to proclaim that “More change will occur in healthcare over the next 10 years than has occurred over the past 50.”

Labs need to be prepared for a fundamental shift in reimbursement and a new explosion of technology. In this can’t-miss webinar,  former Mayo Medical Laboratories executive Mr. Keith Laughman proposes that chemistry and pathology labs need to borrow from the pharmaceutical industry's PharmacoEconomics and develop our own LabacoEconomics.

This AACC program is Part I of the LabacoEconomics discussion.  Part II will be presented live at the L2 Summit in San Diego, CA, on September 16-17, and will be launched in an on-demand format at following the event.  (All registrants will be notified when this is available.)

Laboratory administrators, directors, and managers; pathologists; hospital administrators; and others involved in the management of clinical laboratory personnel and lab services.

R. Keith Laughman is an accomplished senior executive with a time-tested record of maximizing efficiency, growth and profitability in both startup and mature healthcare organizations.  Currently Mr. Laughman is the Managing Partner with CareTinuum Consulting Partners, LLC, and a Principal with TRG Healthcare Consulting, LLC.  Mr. Laughman has served as the President and Executive Director of Mayo Medical Laboratories, President of AmeriPath Esoteric Services & Specialty Laboratories and led the startup of Med Fusion, ClearPoint Diagnostics Laboratory and US Oncology Laboratory.

More Information

During the August 26 program, Mr. Laughman will describe:

  • What the lab community can learn from PharmacoEconomics
  • How LabacoEconomics can drive decision-making in the laboratory and across the health system
  • Moving beyond the primary considerations of  price per test and the lab budget to a focus on patient value and laboratory medicine
  • Objectively outlining the value of  diagnostic services provided within the context of an “episode of care”

Mr. Laughman will also answer participant questions during a live Q&A at the end of the webinar.
