The calcium and metabolic bone disease CD-ROM presents a variety of case histories describing different clinical scenarios mostly involving hypercalcemia and hypocalcemia. The interactive cases explore the diagnosis and monitoring of disease and the choice and interpretation of investigations involved. The cases are supported by extensive structured reference material that can be accessed via hot-words at his/her own pace.
On this CD there are fourteen cases of varying length covering hypocalcemia due to hypoparathyroidism, hypomagnesemia and vitamin D deficiency, and hypercalcemia due to myeloma, solid tumor malignancy, hyperparathyroidism, milk-alkali syndrome, sarcoidosis, and Addison's disease. There are also cases to illustrate bone diseases not normally associated with abnormalities of calcium such as Paget's disease and osteoporosis. Two short cases illustrate sample-associated aspects of interpretation. Through the assessments, the cases discuss the best use of biochemical and other diagnostic investigations as the patient is followed from presentation to diagnosis through to management and case resolution.
