These NACB guidelines discuss utilization of emerging laboratory biomarkers of cardiovascular and stroke risk in a primary prevention setting. The risk factors included are: lipoprotein subclasses and particle concentration, lipoprotein (a), apolipoproteins A-I and B, C reactive protein, fibrinogen, white blood cell count, homocysteine, brain (B-type) natriuretic peptide (BNP) and N-terminal pro B-type natriuretic peptide (NT proBNP), and markers of renal function.
