Most data AACC collects are used only to help AACC better serve its customers. It is our general policy to collect and store only personal data that our customers and visitors knowingly provide.

This Privacy Policy applies to all of the personal data we collect about you, including the data we collect from our website. By providing information to us, you expressly agree to this Privacy Policy.

Who are we?

This website is owned and operated by AACC. AACC is incorporated in New York on April 12th, 1949.

The words “we”, “us” or “our” are used interchangeably throughout this Privacy Policy to refer to AACC.

What Information does AACC collect?

To gain access to members-only resources and personalization features on the AACC website, members and other users are asked to register and provide some limited data. This data is submitted voluntarily. AACC asks users to provide their name, date of birth, member number (for members), organization name, business phone, and e-mail. Similar data may be submitted to AACC through membership applications, conference or seminar registration, publication orders, and subscriptions. Additionally, for some e-mails sent in HTML format by AACC to its members, AACC will collect specific data regarding what the recipient does with that e-mail. For those e-mails, AACC will monitor whether a recipient subsequently clicks through to links provided in the message. Other data collected through this tracking feature includes: e-mail address of a user, the date and time of the user's "click," a message number, name of the list from which the message was sent, tracking URL number and destination page. AACC only uses this data to enhance its products and distribution of those products to its members.

How does AACC use the information that it collects?

We collect personal data from you only when you voluntarily provide it to us or when you interact with us electronically. You may withdraw your consent to us using your personal data at any time.

We use data voluntarily submitted by members and other customers in the following ways:

AACC Member Services and Products: Generally, we use data collected to improve our own web content; to respond to visitors' interests, needs and preferences; and to develop new products and services.

Disclosures to Third Parties: We also make member contact information available through our Membership Directory to other members using our Website if that member gave his or her express consent for their data to be shared through the Membership Directory. We also provide limited data to third parties that purchase AACC mailing lists. Members may request AACC to refrain from disclosing their data to third parties on the website. Alternatively, users may contact AACC’s Customer Service at any time at custserv@aacc.org or by logging in to their customer account/profile at https://www.aacc.org/login . In some instances, AACC customers will be offered the opportunity to provide their contact information to program supporters. If desired, individuals may give their consent to have their contact information shared with supporter(s) of a specific program. This consent may be withdrawn at any time.

Membership Directory: In addition to data collected by us, members may update or supplement data provided in the AACC Membership Directory . We permit members to upload and share user generated content, such as photographs and CVs, with other members. The directory is not intended as a place for members to post third-party copyrighted content. We expect AACC members to respect the copyrights, intellectual property rights and data protection rights of others at all times.

The AACC Membership Directory area is provided as a service to members to foster scientific and clinical information exchange. The use of the data for any commercial purposes by anyone other than AACC is expressly forbidden. If you feel that your data in this directory has been used inappropriately, please contact AACC’s Customer Service at any time at custserv@aacc.org .

Credit Card Account Data: We do not disclose credit card account information provided by our members and customers. When members and customers choose to pay using their credit cards, AACC submits the information needed to obtain payment to the appropriate clearinghouse.

Who may use your data?

We may disclose your personal data to enforce our policies, to comply with our legal obligations or in the interests of security, public interest or law enforcement in any country where we operate. For example, we may respond to a request by a law enforcement agency or regulatory or governmental authority. We may also disclose data in connection with actual or proposed litigation, or to protect our property, security, people and other rights or interests.

If AACC is sold or some of its assets transferred to a third party, your personal data may also be transferred to the acquirer. Our customer database may be sold separately from the rest of the business in whole or in part. The purchasers may not be in the same line of business as we are. Potential purchasers may have limited access to data as part of the sale process. Nonetheless, use of your personal data will remain subject to this Privacy Policy.

In the event that AACC enters into administration or liquidation, your personal data may be passed on to a successor in interest. However, if deemed necessary for administration purposes, use of your personal data will remain subject to this Privacy Policy.

How do we protect your data?

We adopt what we consider to be appropriate technical and organisational measures designed to guard against unlawful or unauthorised processing of your personal data and against accidental loss or destruction of, or damage to, your personal data. While no system is completely secure, we believe the measures implemented by the website reduce our vulnerability to security problems to a level appropriate to the type of data involved.

We have security measures in place designed to help protect our Membership Directory, Mailing Lists and the personal data we collect from you to develop our products and services and access to these is restricted internally. However, it remains your responsibility to ensure that you take the following actions:

  • To log off or exit from the website when you are not using it;
  • To ensure that no-one else uses the website while your device is logged on to the website;
  • To keep your password or other access information secret; and
  • To maintain good internet security. For example, if your email account or Facebook account is compromised this could allow access to your account with us if you have given us those details and/or permitted access through those accounts. If your email account is compromised it could be used to ask us to reset a password and gain access to your account with us. You should keep all of your account details secure. If you think that any of your accounts have been compromised you should change your account credentials with us, and in particular make sure any compromised account does not allow access to your account with us. You should also tell us as soon as possible so that we can try to help you keep your account secure and if necessary warn anyone else who could be affected.

What about cookies?

We use cookies only to facilitate automated activity, store and track passwords, determine appropriate communications, and review navigation patterns. Cookies are files that contain data created by a web server that can be stored on a User's hard disk for use either during a particular session ("per-session" cookie) or for future use ("persistent" cookie). When a user registers, the system will ask whether the user approves of the attachment of a cookie (for example, a "Remember Me" or "Remember My Login" prompt). Users may instruct their Internet browsers to opt out of accepting a "persistent" cookie and rather accept only a "per-session" cookie, but will need to login each time they visit the site to enjoy the full benefits. If the user declines the attachment of any cookie, the user may not have access to the full benefits of the website. Registration enables the site to better determine members' interest areas and provide the most relevant data.
