Poster Preparation Guidelines

Display Board Size

The total area of the display board available for posters will be 46 x 46 inches (approximately 116 x 116 centimeters). The permanent number provided by AACC will be placed in either the upper left or right corner and measures 8½ inches in length by 5½ inches in height. You will be sharing your display board with another poster. If your poster exceeds the 46 x 46 inch limits, it may be cut, folded, or otherwise modified to permit both posters full use of the allotted display room.

Abstracts and posters which contain a corporate or organizational logo MUST limit this logo to a single space within the overall presentation no larger than 6 x 6 inches.

In order to meet these size requirements, we recommend that you start the process of putting your poster together by laying out your material on grid paper proportioned for the available display area.

Title

Your title must contain the following information:

  1. Title as submitted on your abstract
  2. Presenting author and all co-authors
  3. Affiliation(s)

Please note that AACC will not provide poster title signs.

Basic Content Requirements

Your poster presentation should contain a clear description of the following:

  1. An outline of your thesis (why you did this work)
  2. The method(s) used to achieve a solution
  3. The results obtained
  4. The conclusions about the importance of your work to laboratory medicine

We also strongly recommend using the following structure for your poster:

  1. A duplicate of your submitted abstract
  2. Introduction
  3. Method(s) and procedure(s)
  4. Statistical data, titled and summarized in a clear, concise format
  5. Figures (preferred) or tables, if necessary
  6. Conclusions

While this format is not required, it is generally used as a way to help you organize your work.

Presentation

The information you display should have a professional appearance. For example, your information should be printed material, figures, or photographs that are mounted on colored paper. All information should be easily read from at least 5 feet away from your poster.

Your information may consist of line images or photographic prints that are spray mounted on the display board. Multiple layers of board can be used to build up a presentation for accent, or to provide a three-dimensional effect.

We also encourage you to bring handouts containing pertinent information from your paper.

Restrictions

  • Instruments, components, or reagents are NOT permitted in the poster area.
  • Abstracts and posters which contain a corporate or organizational logo MUST limit this logo to a single space within the overall presentation no larger than 6 x 6 inches.

Text Introduction

All type should be a minimum of 0.5 cm, and readable from a distance of 5 feet (1.52 meters).

Titles and numbers for subsections - 2.5 cm high
Headings - 1 cm high
Text - 0.5 cm high

The posters will be in the Sails Pavilion of the San Diego Convention Center.

You are required to set up your poster anytime during the 2 hour window that precedes your assigned session at 9:30 a.m.

Your poster is to remain on view for the entire day until 5 p.m.

YOU ARE EXPECTED TO BE AT YOUR POSTER FROM 12:30–1:30 P.M. TO DISCUSS YOUR RESULTS WITH ATTENDEES.

If your poster has been accepted for presentation during the Student Poster Competition, Oral Abstract presentation, or at an AACC Division meeting, you still must put up and present your poster on the day and time that it is assigned. There will be no exceptions granted.

If extenuating circumstances prevent you from being present during your scheduled time, you are expected to make arrangements to have a co-author take your place. If a co-author must take your place, he/she must then be registered for the conference.

Attendance

You are required to register for the AACC Annual Scientific Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo, paying the appropriate registration fee: either a full registration fee for the entire AACC Annual Scientific Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo or a one-day registration fee for the day on which you present your poster. You will not be allowed to set up or attend the poster sessions without the appropriate conference badge.

This requirement extends to exhibiting staff. You may not present a poster if you have only an Expo Only badge or an Exhibitor badge.

Registration material will be available in mid-April 2017 at http://www.aacc.org/2017am.

Withdrawn Abstracts

If you must withdraw a paper, please notify the AACC Meetings Department in writing as soon as possible citing the permanent number, title, presenting author, and scheduled paper session. Contact information for submitting a request to withdraw an abstract will be posted after the abstract submission deadline has passed.

If your abstract must be withdrawn during the meeting, notify staff in the AACC Headquarters office at the San Diego Convention Center. Failure to present an accepted poster without prior notification may jeopardize your ability to present at future meetings.

Any abstracts that are not presented at the 69th AACC Annual Scientific Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo will not be published in the October Supplement of Clinical Chemistry. The October issue is the only citable publication for your work.
