Samir L. Aleryani, Ph.D., FACB - August 2013

Dr. Aleryani received his BS in laboratory medicine (biochemistry) from Sana'a University, School of Medicine and Health Sciences of Yemen (1988), MS from Northeastern University of Boston (1996) and Ph.D. in Chemistry (S-nitrosothiols and nitric oxide chemistry) from Cleveland State University (1999). Dr. Aleryani served as an Assistant Professor of biochemistry in the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Sana'a University, Yemen (1999-2003). In 2003, he was a visiting Fulbright Scholar at Harvard Medical School, Cambridge, MA. At Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), he was appointed Instructor of clinical pathology and medicine (2004-2008). Dr. Aleryani was appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical pathology, Division of laboratory Medicine, Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology, Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN (2009-present).

Dr. Aleryani completed post baccalaureate certificate in Clinical Chemistry at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts and clinical chemistry fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). He has over 14 years of experience in clinical laboratories with the Pathology Department of the MGH (Boston, USA), the Reference Laboratory (RL) of the Reproductive Endocrine Unit (REU) of the Department of Medicine of MGH, the Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Services both at Vanderbilt Medical Center (VUMC). He has also four years of experience in the Reference Laboratory testing and phlebotomy at Vanderbilt University. He is certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) as a Medical technologist (MT) and the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA) as Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS). His expertise is in immunoassays, laboratory automation and clinical trials. He also has extensive experience in laboratory tests utilizations and consolidations and has presented and talked at AACC meetings.

Dr. Aleryani research interest is in evidence based in the best laboratory tests utilization and nomenclatures, vitamin D utilization, cathinone chemistry and cystic fibrosis therapy by fatty acids supplementations.

Dr. Aleryani is an Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Khat Research (IJKR), advisory board member of the journals of TANG and Clinical Immunology, Endocrine & Metabolic Drugs. He is a reviewer for Clinica Chemica Acta, Life Sciences, and Jordan journal of Biological Sciences (JJBS). He also serves as a member of the Rare Genomics Institute.

Dr. Aleryani is a member of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) (1993-present). He served as a secretary of the AACC-Northeast section (2008) and as an Educational Chair of the AACC-Southeast Section (2010-2012). He is a member of Sigma Xi at Vanderbilt (2010-current) and as a Southeast Regional Associate Director (2010). He is an elected member of the Academy of Clinical Laboratory Physicians and Scientists (ACLPS) (2006-present). He is an associate fellow of the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (NACB)(2007) and the Endocrine Society. Other memberships include, American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB), American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) and the Association of Clinical Biochemists (ACB).
