Mike Hallworth MA, MSc, MCB, FRCPath

Mike Hallworth is Consultant Clinical Scientist to the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, UK. He trained in chemistry at the University of Oxford, and in clinical biochemistry at the University of Leeds and hospitals in Manchester, Cambridge and Glasgow. He is a past President of the European Communities Confederation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (EFCC) and past Chairman of the UK Association for Clinical Biochemistry. He is an elected Council Member of the Royal College of Pathologists (UK) and was responsible for initiating the Lab Tests Online UK Project, run by the Association for Clinical Biochemistry in co-operation with AACC, which represented the first phase in the globalization of Lab Tests Online.

Mike was awarded the UK Healthcare Scientist of the Year Award in November 2008 by the UK Chief Scientific Officer, Professor Sue Hill, and chaired the 2010 Annual Meeting Organizing Committee for AACC. He was the 2010 winner of the EFCC-Roche European Scientific Award for Laboratory Medicine. He edited the Annals of Clinical Biochemistry between 1988 and 2000 and has refereed papers for that journal, Clinical Chemistry, Clinica Chimica Acta and other national specialist journals.

Mike's special interests are in therapeutic drug monitoring and immunoassay, and he has published (with Ian Watson) the textbook "Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Laboratory Medicine" (ACB Venture Publications, 2008), plus over thirty scientific papers and book chapters. He has lectured widely both nationally and internationally on therapeutic drug monitoring and the value of laboratory medicine, and teaches and examines on four MSc courses in clinical biochemistry.
