Mustafa Abu-Lisan

1986 International Travel Fellowship

Mustafa Abu-Lisan received the the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (formerly AACC) International Fellowship Award, sponsored by Becton Dickinson Vacutainer Systems.

He has arranged with Dr. Benjamin Gerson (of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Harvard Medical School) to go to Kuwait and work for some time in the field of toxicology and therapeutic drug monitoring.

His interest in that particular area of clinical chemistry stems from the fact that Kuwait and other Gulf countries desperately need the application of appropriate techniques and proper clinical interpretation of toxicology screening and therapeutic drug monitoring results.  Cases of poisoning by trace-metals and abnormal drug levels are a major challenge that needs expert handling.

His knowledge of Arabic, English, and Maltese is excellent, a great advantage in understanding the needs of the patients and the countries involved.

He has been a member of the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM) since 1982 and currently is entrusted with a variety of duties and responsibilities in the Ministry of Public Health in Kuwait.
