Luis Barrera

1985 International Travel Fellowship

Luis Alejandro Barrera received the the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (formerly AACC) International Fellowship Award, sponsored by Becton Dickinson Vacutainer Systems. Dr. Barrera received his Ph.D. degree in clinical biochemistry in 1978, from the University of Miami. He is currently Professor Pre y Postgrado and director of the laboratory of biochemistry, Universidad de los Andes, Bogota, Colombia. Institutions at which he has studied include SUNY Buffalo (M.S. degree); Instituto de Ciencias, Bogatá; the University of Miami (teaching assistant); and the Universidad del Valle.

He has participated in several international projects and is the author of eight papers, primarily on aspects of glycerol metabolism. Professor Barrera has been active in several scientific societies and is a founding member of one. He has been a member of the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM) since 1971.
