William E. Winter, MD

2008 Award for Outstanding Contributions in Education

Dr. Winter is a professor in the departments of pathology, immunology, and laboratory medicine; pediatrics; and molecular genetics and microbiology at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville. Dr. Winter directed the pathology residency training program at the University of Florida for 10 years before being appointed as course director for the second year medical student pathology course in 2004. He has given numerous presentations and has published extensively on behalf of the AACC. With Dr. M. Signorino, he authored AACC’s monograph, Diabetes Mellitus. With Drs. I. Jialal and D. Chan, he co-authored AACC’s Handbook of Diagnostic Endocrinology. A five-time winner of the AACC Outstanding Speaker Award, Dr. Winter served on the AACC Annual Meeting Organizing Committee in 1998 and 2003 and is presently on the 2009 committee. He chaired the organizing committee for AACC’s professional practice in clinical chemistry course in 2005 and 2007 and chairs the 2009 course. He is a fellow of the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry and the College of American Pathologists. He is currently a member of the board of directors of the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry. Including articles, chapters, and abstracts, he has contributed nearly 200 publications that deal with chemistry, coagulation, diabetes, endocrinology, and immunology.
