I would like to recommend a book that I picked up this year at the AACC meeting. The book is entitled, “The New Poor Lab’s Guide to the Regulations: Compliance and Inspection Survival Advice for CLIA, The Joint Commission, CAP and COLA. Successful Strategies and Specific Applications of the Regulations.” By Sharon S. Ehrmeyer, PhD (ISBN# 978-1886958081; $70.00 for AACC members).

The title is a bit of a mouthful, but this really is an excellent book. I thought that it’s a tremendous resource for those in training who are just getting to grips with quality management for the first time. It would also be very helpful to those who have just finished their postdocs and are moving into Directorate positions. It provides a step-by-step approach to dealing with the various regulatory bodies for clinical laboratories. In my opinion, it’s definitely a worthwhile addition to the bookshelf, particularly for those trying to navigate the waters of CLIA for the first time
