A new offering allows laboratorians and physicians to earn credit toward Maintenance of Certification self-assessment module requirements via two on-demand webinar programs. The online education format, with practical information that applies to daily work, makes it convenient and easy to follow, and it is viewable anytime.

Highly rated speakers are featured in the webinars, and participants can earn CME/SAM and ACCENT credits, upon completion of a multiple-choice quiz. Two different formats are available. The material for the first program, called Professional Practice in Clinical Chemistry On-Demand Webinars, is drawn from AACC’s “Professional Practice in Clinical Chemistry” course, which was held in 2013. Covered subject areas include clinical chemistry essentials; pregnancy, neonatal, and newborn testing; immunology and protein testing; therapeutic drug monitoring and toxicology; and hematology and coagulation for the core lab.

Featured speakers for the first program include: David Grenache, PhD, ARUP Laboratories, Salt Lake City; Neil Harris, MD, University of Florida, Gainesville; Gary Horowitz, MD, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston; Patricia Jones, PhD, Children’s Medical Center, Dallas; Kara Lynch, PhD, University of California, San Francisco; and Alison Woodworth, PhD, Vanderbilt University, Nashville.

Material for the second program, called Cutting Edge On-Demand Webcasts, is drawn from AACC’s 2013 live webinar series, “Cutting Edge Technologies, Common Sense Solutions,” featuring experts discussing the application of new technologies making a significant impact on clinical laboratory testing. It covers cancer biomarkers, therapeutic drug monitoring and toxicology, and infectious disease.

Featured speakers for the Cutting Edge program include a who’s who of laboratory medicine, ranging from Callum Fraser, PhD, University of Dundee Ninewells Hospital and Medical School, Dundee, Scotland, and Catherine Hammett-Stabler, PhD, University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, to James Ritchie, PhD, Emory University School of Medicine and Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, and Frederick (Rick) Nolte, PhD, Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

The objectives of the webinars are to evaluate new methodologies and technologies for implementation, advise clinicians on appropriate tests for efficient and accurate patient diagnosis and treatment, analyze and interpret lab test results, and troubleshoot and correctly resolve outlier lab results.
