There are three federal agencies responsible for implementing the CLIA'88 regulations. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is responsible for the overall administration of the program, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is integrally involved in the science and quality issues pertaining to the standards and the Food and Drug Administration is responsible for determining the criteria for categorizing the tests, along with making the categorization decisions. Each agency has extensive and useful Web sites on CLIA'88, which are accessible through this page.
