Session Overview: Discuss epidemiology and risk factors of HCV infection. Review various laboratory testing procedures for diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, monitoring and patient management. Various treatment protocols will be reviewed and compared. Management and monitoring for adverse effects will be discussed.

Learning Objectives: At the end of this session, attendees will understand: the scope of HCV infection; risk factors involved with HCV infection; the use of various lab tests to make diagnosis, prognosis, monitor for treatment; and monitor/manage adverse effects. Attendees will learn different treatment protocols including the two new FDA-approved protease inhibitors drugs.


Dr. Chou received his PhD in Clinical Chemistry from the Cleveland State University. He is certified by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry and the National Registry in Clinical Chemistry. He is a fellow of the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry. Dr. Chou is also certified by the States of New York and New Jersey as a laboratory director. He joined American Medical Laboratories (now Quest Diagnostic Nichols Institute) in 1980. Dr. Chou held numerous appointments while at American Medical Laboratories, including R&D Manager, Technical Director of Special Chemistry and R&D, Vice President of Technical Operations and Senior Vice President of Scientific Affairs. Currently, he serves as the Director of Scientific Affairs at Quest Diagnostic Nichols Institute (Chantilly, VA).
