Ioannis Papassotiriou, PhD
Dr. Ioannis Papassotiriou, Eur Clin Chem, is Director of the Department of Clinical Biochemistry of “Aghia Sophia” Children’s Hospital, Athens, Greece.
Dr. Papassotiriou is a graduate of Biology Department, School of Sciences, University of Athens, Athens, Greece. He conducted his PhD Thesis in the Hematology Field in Athens University’s Medical School. This was followed by research fellowships at ΙNSERM U473 Universite Paris XI, Hopital de Bicetre, Le Kremlin-Bicetre and at Laboratoire de Biochimie, ΙΝSERM U468, Hopital Henri Mondor, Universite Paris XII, Creteil, France, for studies in the field of Blood Substitutes and Protein Chemistry.
Dr. Papassotiriou’s major interests lie in the evaluation of new biomarkers of renal and cardiac function and diabetes as well as oxidative stress and hemoglobinopathies.
He is member of various Scientific Societies, such as the American Society of Hematology, the European Hematology Association and the American Association of Clinical Biochemists. He is also elected General Secretary of the Hemoglobinopathies Section of the Hellenic Society of Hematology.
He is also received two distinguished awards from National Academy of Clinical Biochemists-American Society of Clinical Chemistry (Chicago 2009 and Los Angeles 2012).
Dr. Ioannis Papassotiriou serves as scientific reviewer for numerous Hematology, Clinical Chemistry and Endocrinology Journals. He has authored more than 180 peer-reviewed publications (see Pub-Med), as well as invited reviews and book chapters.
