David D. Koch Chosen as AACC President-Elect

AACC is pleased to announce that the association membership has elected four new members to the AACC Board of Directors and two new members to the Nominating Committee. All will take office in January 2014.

David D. Koch, PhD, DABCC, FACB, will serve a 1-year term on the AACC Board as president-elect, followed by successive terms as the association’s 66th president in 2015 and past president in 2016, while David Grenache, PhD, DABCC, FACB, will serve a 3-year term as secretary. Additionally, Rita Horvath, MD, PhD, EurClinChem, FRCPath, FRCPA, and James Faix, MD, will serve 3-year terms as Board members, and Larry Broussard, PhD, DABCC, FACB, and Ann Gronowski, PhD, DABCC, FACB, will serve 2-year terms on the Nominating Committee.

Dr. Koch is currently director of clinical chemistry, toxicology, and point-of-care testing at Grady Memorial Hospital and a professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Emory University in Atlanta. He teaches in Emory’s Commission on Accreditation in Clinical Chemistry (ComACC)-accredited postdoctoral training program and also is chair of the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry Awards Committee, as well as an active participant in several other professional organizations. As a member of AACC since 1980, Dr. Koch’s service to the association includes time as a member on the Board of Directors, chair of the Southeast Section, and treasurer of the Critical Care Testing Division.

During his presidency, he aims to advance the field of laboratory medicine among both the public and other healthcare professionals, and mentor young scientists and recruit them to the profession. He also plans to focus on increasing the influence of clinical chemists on healthcare policy, as well as strengthening AACC financially so that it can continue providing valuable programs and services to members.
