Paula J. Santrach, MD
Paula J. Santrach obtained her M.D. from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She completed her residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She then moved back to Minnesota for fellowship training in transfusion medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Santrach joined the staff at the Mayo Clinic in 1990 and has held a number of leadership and scientific positions within the Mayo Clinic. She currently serves as the Medical Director of Autotransfusion, Co-Director of Point-of-Care Testing, Chair of the Clinical Practice Quality Oversight Committee, and Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for Mayo Clinic Medical Transportation. She is an Associate Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology within the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine.
Dr. Santrach is heavily involved in AACC, serving most recently as the Chair of the Program Coordinating Commission (PCC) and an ex officio member of the Board of Directors. She also is a current member of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Advisory Committee (CLIAC) with the Department of Health and Human Services.
Dr. Santrach has published over 70 peer reviewed original articles, primarily in transfusion medicine, perioperative blood salvage, and point-of-care testing. She has given numerous plenary lectures around the world and been recognized with AACC’s Outstanding Speaker Award six times.
