Graham H. Beastall, CBE, PhD, FRCPath, FRCP(Glas)
Dr. Graham Beastall obtained his PhD in Steroid Biochemistry in the University of Liverpool. He moved to Glasgow as a University Lecturer before becoming a clinical biochemist in the UK National Health Service (NHS). Immediately prior to leaving the NHS in 2009 Dr. Beastall was Consultant Clinical Scientist and Clinical Lead for the large multi-site Department of Clinical Biochemistry in North Glasgow. This Department undertakes 12 million tests each year, including most of the specialty clinical biochemistry for Scotland.
Dr. Beastall currently works for the UK Government Department of Health as a Professional Advisor on Laboratory Medicine.
Dr. Beastall has published >175 peer reviewed original articles, mainly in biochemical endocrinology and evidence based laboratory medicine. He has given >50 invited plenary lectures around the world.
Dr. Beastall has held numerous representative roles. He was Chair, then President, of the Association for Clinical Biochemistry and Vice President of the medical Royal College of Pathologists in the UK. He has been Secretary of the European Communities Confederation of Clinical Chemistry (EC4) and in 2009 was elected as President of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC).
Dr. Beastall has received several awards including an honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians. In 2007 he was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire, which he received from the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
