June 2009 Mentor of the Month: Edward Ashwood
Edward R. Ashwood, M.D.

Dr. Ashwood is a senior vice president and director of laboratories/chief medical officer for ARUP Laboratories, Inc., and also tenured professor of pathology at the University of Utah School of Medicine. In July 2009, he will assume the duties of ARUP President and CEO.

Following his undergraduate (BSChE) and medical (MD) education at the University of Colorado, he completed a laboratory medicine (clinical pathology) residency at the University of Washington in Seattle. He joined ARUP and the University of Utah in 1985.

Dr. Ashwood co-edits Tietz Textbook of Clinical Chemistry and Molecular Diagnostics (4thedition), Tietz Fundamentals of Clinical Chemistry (6th edition), and Fundamentals of Molecular Diagnostics. He has published over 80 papers and more than 130 invited lectures worldwide.
