NACB 2011 Awards

Dr. Whitley recognized Abbott Diagnostics and Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics as longstanding supporters of NACB’s Awards Programs. Dr. Norm Wald from Abbott and Dr. Mary Lou Gantzer from Siemens Diagnostics were recognized and thanked for their support.    

Dr. David Koch introduced NACB’s major awards:

AACC-NACB AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO CLINICAL CHEMISTRY IN A SELECTED AREA OF RESEARCH This year’s award went to world renowned cancer researcher Dr. Peter Nowell of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Nowell was unable to receive the award in person. However, he sent his regards and sincere thanks.
ALVIN DUBIN AWARD This award recognizes contributions to the profession and the Academy by a member of NACB.  The 2011 Alvin Dubin Award was given to Dr. Susan Evans. Dr. Evans is vice president of corporate strategic planning at Beckman Coulter. She is very well known to all in NACB and AACC for exactly the reasons that this award is given!

	GEORGE GRANNIS AWARD This award is given for excellence in research and scientific publication by a young investigator. It is sponsored by NACB and the Ohio Valley Local Section. Dr. Bonny Lewis Van presented the award to Dr. Maria Diamandis Pasic, who is currently a Clinical Fellow at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Whitley then presented the NACB president’s medal to our current President-elect, Dr. Stanley Lo, and plaques of recognition to past-president Dr. Robert Murray, and to Dr. Lori Sokoll and Dr. William Winter who served on the NACB Board during the years 1608 to 2010. In addition, Dr. William Winter and Dr. James Faix were recognized by Dr. Whitley and the NACB for having the most popular NACBLOG posts in 2011.

Dr. Elizabeth Frank presented the ComACC service award to Dr. Khosrow Adeli, the training program Director at the University of Toronto.
