Message From the Chair
By Steven R Binder
Greetings to all CDID members,
My 2013 has begun with two interesting events that I would like to share with you.
After some considerable planning, four AACC divisions worked together to present a program on diagnostic biomarkers. The meeting was hosted by MSACL, a group that discusses mass spectrometry clinical applications. Since many that meeting’s attendees are interested in biomarker development, it was a natural fit. The four AACC divisions
(CDID, proteomics, molecular pathology, and clinical translational science) were all represented with both speakers and attendees. We made a positive contribution to understanding the challenges of biomarker development, and we hope to repeat this type of event in the future. For more details, see my article below.
I also participated in another project that had a long gestation—the 4th edition of The Immunoassay Handbook, now in print. Among the 100+ volunteer authors, you will recognize many members of our division and other clinical chemistry experts. The editor has pulled out the stops to cover every aspect of the topic and provide a truly useful reference book.
At the annual meeting in late July, I hope that many of you will be able to attend our Issues in Immunodiagnostics Symposium on celiac disease on Wednesday July 31, 2013 at 10:30 am, as well as our Annual mixer/awards ceremony Tuesday evening. More information on both of these events is available below.
For the 2014 AACC Annual Meeting, Chicago, CDID plans to co-develop and sponsor sessions on topics related to clinical and diagnostic immunology, or co-develop programs of mutual interest with other AACC Divisions. We invite all members to submit ideas and proposal to Dr. Gabriella Lakos, CDID’s Education Officer as soon as possible. The division officers will work with you to develop your ideas into a proposal for next years’ meeting.
